This is what Rudy mailed in to be
included in the reunion book of 2005:
Dr. James Rudolph Singletary, Jr.* (married)
3504 Lakebrook Drive Murfreesboro, Tenn 37130
home: 615-430-9698 cell: 615-430-9699
spouse: Patti Ann Taylor
children: 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren
After the Army, I graduated from Campbell
University, the Medical University of SC, and the graduate
school of the University of Cincinnati. I decided to put my
knowledge to use so I taught classes at the Univ. of Cincinnati. I
am now self-employed and hope to retire within the next 2 years. I would
really like to attend this reunion, but I will undergo eye surgery this
month to keep from going blind.
NOTATION: Because of his health from the eye surgery, he
sold his business and was employed by Eckerd's. He had donated his
organs, but they could not be accepted as they revealed Rudy had
Agent Orange, which he must have
picked up in the Viet Nam War. He
certainly accomplished alot in his short life time, as he acquired much
education and he put it to use.
Rudy died June 23, 2006.
Rudy Singletary, 64, went to be with the Lord suddenly on
Friday, June 23, 2006. Graveside services will be Wednesday at Manning
Cemetery in Manning, SC with full military honors. Dr. Singletary was
a very well-respected Pharmacologist for more than 30 years and a member of
the Northside Baptist Church. He proudly served multiple tours of duty as a
Green Beret in the US Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War, was a 32nd
Degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hamlet, NC.

A new Pansey Fetner School picture was added. It is not our class, but you
may have brothers or sisters or other that you recognize in it. It is 5th
grade in 1948. The picture was sent by
Steve Baggett of
Rockingham, North Carolina, and by Charlotte Cowan of Rice Street, Hamlet.
If you can help add names to any of the Pansey Fetner pictures, that would be
nice. --Diana

i saw warren's message. i might as well get
on the band wagon too. i have written 5 books, but they were genealogy
books. my first one was THE MASSENGILLS OF JOHNSTON CO. NC. then
within a year, i had enough more infor for volumn 2. then later i
wrote book, my best one yet , about the size of a catalog, called THE SNEADS
OF JOHNSTON CO. NC. this won an award. those were on my
mothers side. then i wrote THE NOAH CHANEY FAMILY ALBUM on my daddys side. i
called it an album as i had pictures of everyone mentioned. my last
book was THE THOMAS JACKSON WALKER,, SR FAMILY OF CASWELL CO. NC. this
w as catalog thickness also. i have been doing research for 30 years
and finally one day decided i would put info together. the comments
from people who didnt know their families were amazing. it was all a
labor of love. you certainly dont get rich, not with expenses to traveling
to cemeteries, hall of archives, etc. by the way, all five books are
in raleigh at the archives and in most state libraries, including new york
and especially the mormon library in utah., i also did those on a
typewriter, you know those things before computers. i am not working on my
husbands side, the PATES, BUTLERS, SNEADS, AND OTHER RELATED FAMILIES OF
SCOTLAND, ANSON, AND RICHMOND COUNTIES.
24 March 2003 from
Warren Calloway:
I have done two books, but mine are
Railroad history/motive power oriented books. My first book was published in
1988 on Seaboard Air Line diesel locomotives. The second was published in
1993 and titled "Atlantic Coast Line- The Diesel Years". Both are basically
railroad locomotive histories and are more photography/pictures that a lot
of text.
These were written for the train fans and
were sold by the Hamlet Station museum. Both first printing have since sold
out.
I became interested in the railroad
locomotive history during the summer months when working for Seaboard. Began
taking lots of pictures and have amassed a large collection.
Thousands and thousands of railroad
subjects available in Black & White 5 x7 or 8 x 10 photographs from my
personnel collection. No list available. E-mail me with your wants. B&W
photos of roads all across the US available both class ones and short lines,
many dating for 1960s to present.

Christians' e-mail list helps people in need
BY ALBERTA LINDSEY
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER
The family - mom, dad and seven children ranging in age from 3 years to 7
years - lived in one motel room.
The father, a musician, was out of work. The family had gotten behind in its
bills and been evicted from its rented house.
Tracie Adams, a member of Mechanicsville Christian Center in Hanover County,
knew some of the children because they attend a 4-H Club at the Richmond
Outreach Center, a community center in South Side. Adams is a volunteer
leader of the club.
She befriended the family and talked with the parents.
"They had no idea how to get out of the hole they were in," said Adams, who
prayed about the family. "I talked with them to see what they needed to work
out to get out of their situation."
The family also had gotten behind in paying to store its possessions. The
storage facility auctioned the family's furniture and other belongings to
one person for $600.
"God started working things out," Adams said. "The money to buy back the
family's possessions became available, and we talked the man who bought the
things into selling them back to the family. The father is working on a CD.
The mother got a job. They got a house."
But there were still many needs, Adams said. "Some of their things were
ruined in storage. They needed mattresses and a sofa."
Adams turned to Gwen Mansini, director of urban ministries at the
Mechanicsville Christian Center, for help. Mansini e-mailed a list of items
the family needed to an e-group of about 800 people. Within two days the
family had the mattresses and sofa.
E-mailing special needs of people and prayer requests is something Mansini
does often. "We put out the word and God responds through people," she said.
"Just the right people seem to respond. I've never not had someone respond."
Adams said: "I like to hear about needs people have. I love to pray for
specific things. But we hardly have time to pray about something before you
get an e-mail saying it's done."
Mansini received an e-mail about a handicapped young man who wanted to ride
a bicycle, but it had to be a bike with three wheels.
"Immediately a woman responded: 'My dad can build one. He had to do that for
my brother.' The Bible says to bear one another's burdens, and people are
doing that," she said.
Since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, she has received
many e-mails about people needing employment. Now people who know of job
openings notify Mansini and she informs the e-group.
Not only have people found work, but those needing cars to get to and from
jobs have received them. A church needing a plumber found one. A woman
needing clothes for an infant was given them.
Mansini started the e-group after the Convoy of Hope was in Richmond in
2000. More than 1,000 volunteers helped with the giveaway program that was
aimed at telling people about Jesus.
"About 800 of the volunteers had e-mail addresses and I thought it was a way
to stay in touch. I had no plan for anything like this," she said.
"All of these people have a connection: the body of Christ," she added. "God
just blows me out of the water."

From Shirley Morse
Guthrie 13 August 2001
Well, it has certainly been an interesting (!?) week.
Sat. a week ago (Aug. 4), I was typing an email to a friend, and all of a
sudden, my computer cut off. I called the "help" people, and it was
determined the power supply unit quit working. After some hassle with
them (warranty stuff, etc.) they said they would send someone out to fix it.
They did not come until today (Aug. 13). I hope it is finally fixed, as this
is the 2nd power supply they have had to put in since I got it last Sept.
On Monday, Aug. 6, I had to work at the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC),
thanks to our little (?) "friend" , Tropical Storm Barry. I worked a
12 hour shift out there, providing resources for people impacted by the
storm. When I got home, needless to say I was tired, and ready to
relax. The first thing I noticed was my garage door remote opener did
not work. I thought maybe the power was off, so was not concerned.
However, when I got in the house, I had power. Next, I picked up the
phone to call my brother, and let him know I was O.K. - but the phone wasn't
working. I went next door to my neighbor's house, to see if her phone
was working. It was. She said there had been a terrifically loud
noise earlier in the day, and it was obvious lightning had hit somewhere
close by, because you could smell it in the air. Guess what! It
was at MY house. We went outside, and here is what we found. Lightning
hit a big pine tree that is about 20 feet from my house. There were wood
pieces and bark all over the yard, and we could see where it had streaked
down the entire length of the tree - approximately 60 feet. It blew a
hole in the ground at the base of the tree, then another hole in the ground
where the lightning apparently exited. My telephone wires were blown
apart, as was my television cable line. It blew the cover on the
telephone connection apart, and bits of it were scattered over the yard, as
far as 30 feet away. The next day I managed to get the phone
company come lay a new line (which they just buried in the ground today).
The cable company came on Wednesday and laid a new line (they haven't come
to bury the new line yet). Once I had phone service, I found that 2 of
my phone had been "fried", and so had my VCR. I had called my
insurance agent, and he came out on Wed. to assess the damage and talk about
my claim. So, for the past week I have been dealing with phone/ cable/
electrician/ T.V./ insurance people. I have a $500 deductible, so I
get to "eat" the cost of removing the now dead pine tree (not yet removed
- hopefully next week. Also, hopefully, it will not fall on my house
before then!). However, the Ins. Co. is picking up the cost of: having
all the electrical in my house inspected, having someone check out the T.V.
and VCR (T.V. O.K., VCR "dead"), replacing the VCR, and replacing the
phones. The garage door remotes were O.K., the opener just needed to
be reset (for 3 days I would have to park outside, come in, open the garage,
go back outside, pull the car into the garage, close the door. Lots of
fun when it is raining!).
Except for the reimbursements from the Ins. Co., the removal of the tree,
and replacing my VCR (a 2-years old Christmas gift from my sons), everything
else has pretty well been taken care of. Some of you know that I was
dealing with some other "problems" prior to this. So - all of this has
been a most "interesting" occurrence!! One I could have happily lived
without!
However, the bright side is: my house did not catch on fire, the pine tree
didn't fall on my house (yet!), the electrical system in my house is fine,
the other things are "things" that can be replaced, I have use of my
computer again, the cable line will soon be buried, and the Ins. Co. is
being both nice and cooperative. Their payout will be less than mine,
but it is better than nothing. However, I'm going to have my
deductible lowered!! As to the prior "problems", they will also get
worked out - eventually.

From Shirley Morse
Guthrie 12 June 2001
Boy did we ever have a storm for
the past day and a half! Almost 10 inches of rain yesterday! Not
much wind, thank goodness, so little damage that way, but so much rain that
a number of streets were flooded,
some low-lying homes flooded, and cars flooded out that were caught on
flooded streets (water up to the door handles!). Several people hurt
who were caught in flooded streets, including one person presumed
dead. A woman and male companion tried to continue on a flooded
street, in their car, it went off the road into a culvert, she managed to
get out and almost drowned as the rushing water swept her to a storm grate.
The car (a KIA) was swept about a mile and a half through the culvert.
Someone heard her shouting for help, she was rescued, and later her car was
found, but no sign - as yet - of the male companion. We had 4 separate
tornado warnings in a span of an hour and a half. The lightning was
fierce = coming, going away, coming, going away, etc., for about 14
hours. Glad that's over - and this was only a Tropical Storm - not a
hurricane. Makes us wonder what hurricanes will be like this year in
this area!

From Shirley Morse
Guthrie 10 June 2001
Just wanted to let everyone know - in case you decide to send me any
"regular" mail, that as of July 1, my zip code is changing. It will
now be 32309.
I hope everyone is well and happy.
