Make pie dough for 2 large 9" pans.
Step 1:
Mix 3 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening or 1/4 lb. margarine
Take out 1/4 cup for crumb topping (to be used later)
Step 2:
Stir 1 tsp. baking soda into 1 cup molasses
Add 1 cup hot water to molasses and baking soda
Stir this molasses mixture into flour and sugar mixture of step 1.
Step 3: Goo for bottom of pans:
Stir all together:
1 cup molasses
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. flour
1 egg
Put goo in bottom of pans, half into each.
Gently pour the flour-sugar mixture on top of goo, dividing equally to each
pan. The goal is to float the batter on top of the liquid goo. Sprinkle crumbs
on top of pies and bake at 325 degrees for 3/4 hrs.
