James Henry Gardner Oct 8 - 1876 - Oct 1 1959, son of James Tillman Gardner and Mary Eliza Cherry. 
He married Rosa Lee Thompson, daughter of Alfred Becton Thompson and Virginia McKenize Best. 
They had 12 children: 
1. James Tillman Gardner, Aug. 1901-1974 never married; 
2. Gar. Carrie Eliza Gardner Apr 15,1904 - mar. 4 1972, she married J. Brantly Speight May 11 1914-1971.
They had one child. Alice Rachel Speight Dec 20 1936. 
3. George Roland Gardner  Oct 25,1905-Jan. 1965.  He married Ola Willis born Mar. 14, 1911.
They had one daughter, Rosa Jean Gardner Apr., 26 1936. 
Rosa married Richard Elmo Flowers, born Aug. 7 1928. 
4. Mary Virginia Gardner Feb. 11 1907; she married Ezra Speicher Pate Born Oct. 17, 1905.
5. Tempie Lee Gardner Feb. 21 1909 - Jan 13 1946; she married Hubert Lee Best born Sept. 20 1894 - Jan. 19, 1936. They had four daughters.
6. Nancy Inez Gardner July 1 1910; she never married. 
7. Jessie Lyman Gardner, Nov. 12, 1912;  he married Celia A. Parks and they had 3 children.
8. Fannie Lucretia Gardner Oct. 27 1914 - Apr 21, 1996;  she married Cldye Cox and they had 12 children. 
9. Cecil Beck Gardner Oct. 27, 1914; he married Doris L. Keene born May 20, 1925. They had 4 children.
10. Edgar Herod Gardner Jan. 20, 1916; he married Mary Lassiter, born Feb. 21, 1920. They had 3 children. 
11. Helen Irene Gardner May 17, 1918. Married Harvey Heath and divorced. They had 2 children.  Married 2nd Claude Heath and divorced.
and last but not least, 
12. Melba Thompson Gardner Sept. 27, 1921; married Woodrow Wilson Anderson and had 3 children.
