The Stephen D. Phillips Family of Wayne County

Phillips
My great great grandfather, Stephen D. Phillips lived at the corner of Center Street and Ash Avenue. His house is identified on the 1881 map.  Stephen was a tailor, by trade, and had a shop on Center Street.  He also was in the Goldsboro Rifles, enlisting in April 1861 in the CSA, and was a Captain.

An active member in the community, he was a member of the St John Methodist Church (when formed), and the Neuse Lodge6 of the Odd Fellows.  He died in 1897and is buried in Willowdale Cemetery.

Stephen D. Phillips was married to Sarah A. Branch.  They had numerous children.  Their daughter, Martha Elizabeth was married to John Kobbler Wrenn, of Fredericksburg, Va.  John was a Confederate veteran of the 30th Va. Infantry.  They lived in a house on Center St, next to the Phillips family.
