I am looking for the ancestors of Edmund Coor, my great grandfather, who was born about 1811 in North Carolina according to the 1880 census and family tradition. He died about January 17, 1895, in Wayne County. He married first Anna Mariah COX, daughter of Levi Cox, prior to 1838, and they had eight children. Anna Mariah Cox Coor died between the 1880 census and January 4, 1882, when Edmund Coor remarried (he was 69 or 70 years old at the time!) to Adrianna Hooks. We are seeking information on Haddie Floyd b. 1861 in Northern Georgia in what we believe to have been part of the Cherokee Tertority at one time. We know nothing of her parents. She died after 1934 as our mother was born in 1934 the year Haddie Floyds' husband Braunt Johns died. Haddie lived with our Grandparents for a time. No one remembers when she died and her grave is unmarked. Haddie Floyd told our mother that she was full blooded Cherokee Indian. She spoke funny but English; stating she had been taught in White mans school. She also stated that the white man had given her family the name of Floyd because they could not say the Cherokee name. We had a painting done of Haddie and Braunt that was made from a very small photo that Haddie carried inside a locket that was handed down through the family. To our knowledge Braunt always lived around Nahunta Georgia area, but we have no idea where they were married. We would guess higher up into Georgia. We have no knowledge of either of their parents names. We do Know that their oldest child, our Great GrandFather was born in Wayne County, GA. in 1889. Any and all help or leads welcomed!

Does anyone out there have access to the will book that maybe could make a copy for me? I think Samuel could be Major's son because Samuel named his firstborn Major. Samuel married a Zilphia with last name unknown. They had five children in NC before moving to Hardeman County, Tenn, between 1827 and 1830. They were in the census of Hardeman County, Tenn., in 1830. Their children were Major Hamilton, Kizzie Ann, Margaret Ann, Hillery Harriel, and William Avender. Evidently he was married twice, first to Rebecca WOODARD?, with children Samuel, John, Burrell, Nancy Ann and Sally Jane. His second marriage was to Amanda ____, in January 1857. They had one daughter that I have found, my gg-grandmother, Edith Elizabeth Davis. Arthur was in the 1850 census in Wayne County with Rebecca, the two oldest boys and a Darkis Woodard, who may be Rebecca's sister (the ages are close). In 1860, the census records show him with Amanda and all six children, including Edith, who was 3 monts old. Also in the household was a Mary Virginia, age 21. Amanda was 37 at the time of the census. Who is Mary Virginia and how does she fit into this household? Was she the daughter of Amanda by a previous marriage? A sister to Amanda? (there's that 16 year age gap). What was Amanda's maiden name? Who were Arthur's and/or Amanda's parents? Evidently these folks were in Wayne County forever. Is anyone else working on this line?

This was a Quaker family. I am trying to find and confirm information on Harriett Ann HOWELL (3/18/1847-10/25/1888), who married my gg grandfather, Henry Franklin PATE soon after the War Between the States ended. I understand from one record that Harriett Ann HOWELL may have married a FOREHAND and had no children before the FOREHAND entered the war and was killed. From reviewing census and war records, it appears that--if the record is true--that the first husband might have been Needham D. FOREHAND, son of Levi FOREHAND. (On the other hand, it could have been Levi FOREHAND, Jr., even though Levi was the younger brother and only 18 upon enlistment. All three, the father and both sons, served in the same company and, unfortunately, neither of the sons returned. The father, however, was discharged after a couple years of service at the approximate age of 45.) If anyone has information on * Harriett Ann HOWELL * Levi FOREHAND, Sr. * Needham FOREHAND * Levi FOREHAND, Jr. I'd appreciate any correspondence. Thanks, Chip Pate pates@mindspring.com

I am looking for descendants of Bunyan BARNES born 1810 and his wife Rhoda COPELAND born 1815. Their children were all born in Black Creek (formerly Wayne County) on the Bowe plantation William C. 1/10/1829; Groomes H. 3/5/1832; Spencer C. 10/28/1833; Rebecca 1834; Jesse 1835; Harriett Caroline 1838; Luiza 1839; Penelope 1841; Christopher Columbus 1842; Mary 1845; Burket W. 6/3/1848; and Jonathan Aug. 1850. I would like to know what happened to Bunyan and Rhoda after 1870 - if they moved away or are buried somewhere in Black Creek. Also, I do not know what became of their son Jesse (1st wife Nancy, 2nd wife Zilphia) after 1880. Many of Jesse's children stayed in Black Creek and Ford Township. All of the Barnes families from Wayne/Wilson/Johnson/Edgecomb County area can be traced back to an English merchant Edward Barnes born in 1610. If you have Barnes in your family tree, I have a lot of information I could share such as wills, land deeds, census records, Civil War service summaries, etc.
