Deans Cemetery: Follow Hwy 117 north from Goldsboro to Belfast. At Belfast, Turn right on Tommy Road (SR1574). The cemetery is about 0.6 miles on the left and is recognized by stone steps leading up.

My wife, Lee, and I went to the cemeteries listed below [Pelt-Pate Cemetery, Deans Cemetery, Pate Cemetery and Salem Cemetery] and video taped each grave. We then transcribed the information to this list. We checked our list against “Gravestone Inscriptions, an Inventory of Cemeteries in Wayne County” here-after referred to as “The Book” and also parts of the WPA. We checked, double checked, cross-checked, and re-visited the cemeteries, and expect that there may still be errors; especially considering how difficult it is to read some of the stones. Since The Book was published prior to our visit to the cemeteries, after each list I have listed entries in the book that I did not see at the cemetery. The WPA entries are noted where they differ from others. I put the information in a format I think will be easier to use. We tried to start at one end and weave back and forth along each line as best as we could tell them, and that is the sequence of the list. In some cases, when the surname was not given, I used the surname of the husband or father.
