My wife, Lee, and I went to the cemeteries listed below and video taped each grave.  We then transcribed the information to this list.  We checked our list against “Gravestone Inscriptions, an Inventory of Cemeteries in Wayne County” here-after referred to as “The Book” and also parts of the WPA.  We checked, double checked, cross-checked, and re-visited the cemeteries, and expect that there may still be errors; especially considering how difficult it is to read some of the stones.   Since The Book was published prior to our visit to the cemeteries, after each list I have listed entries in the book that I did not see at the cemetery.   The WPA entries are noted where they differ from others.  I put the information in a format I think will be easier to use.  We tried to start at one end and weave back and forth along each line as best as we could tell them, and that is the sequence of the list.  In some cases, when the surname was not given, I used the surname of the husband or father.   These are our personal work-sheets and not intended for publication, however, anyone may use them as they wish.    Bill & Lee  Malpass, III    5/5/98 

Pate Cemetery at 302 Combs Rd:  Follow Hwy 117 North from Goldsboro to Hwy 111.  Follow Hwy 111 North to SR 1547 (Stoney Creek Ch Rd.).  Stoney Creek Church - Original Free Will Baptist is on the right.  Turn left onto SR 1547.  About one mile on SR 1547, turn right onto SR 1549 ( Combs Rd.).  Follow the curve to the left for about one mile.  The cemetery is on the left, behind address 302 Combs Rd.  It is about 1000 yards behind the residence, and just visible from the road.
