PIKE CEMETERY
About Pikeville Pikeville, which was incorporated in 1891, was
a stage coach stop which had been operated by the Pike family from the
late 1700s. Samuel Pike received a land grant from the King of England
in 1763. In 1785 the land was transferred to Nathan Pike who operated
a large tavern near what is now Pikeville. This stagecoach stop later
became a railroad stop. Most of the early settlers in the area were
Quakers. The tavern was destroyed by Sherman's Army during the Civil
War.
This is Pike Cemetery located in Wayne County on the Pikeville-Princeton
Road about 3 miles west of Pikeville, NC. I started at the front which is
the older section and went up and down each row. There are about 10 graves with headstones missing or you
cannot read them. Most of these are infants I believe. If anyone notices any errors please let
